Eighth Graders Learn Healthy Cooking!

Mar 15, 2017

Our Healthy Habits program was in full swing this January when about 45 eighth graders enjoyed a field trip to Thyme in Your Kitchen in Sharon, PA to learn how to cook healthy meals at home.  Thyme in Your Kitchen helped to sponsor this program that taught eighth grade students from Farrell Schools some easy meals with readily available ingredients.

Students learned how to create healthy quesadillas, make hand-made egg noodles and chicken noddle soup, and create some desserts that were nutritious.  Each student received an apron and a personal cookbook.  Students loved the class where they learned how to measure ingredients, properly chop vegetables, saute, boil and bake.  “I went home and made quesadillas for my brother and sisters right away.  We had fun making our own creations,” said one student.  Just one week later, three other students had already made quesadillas at home and several had made the egg noodles for their families.  The cooking class was added as a trial this year and the students overwhelmingly agreed that it is a keeper!
