Dr. Edgardo Lob Memorial Cancer Care Fund Scholarship
The Dr. Edgardo Lob Memorial Cancer Care Fund Scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Lob and supports students pursuing higher education in health care fields.
The Dr. Edgardo Lob Memorial Cancer Care Fund was established at the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation to provide support for cancer patients being treated locally through the Hillman Cancer Centers at UPMC Horizon. It is named in memory of Dr. Lob, who was a long-time resident of Greenville, Pennsylvania and devoted his career to helping those around him battle cancer.
The Fund is proud to make the Dr. Edgardo Lob Memorial Cancer Care Fund Scholarship available to a graduate of a Mercer County, Pennsylvania high school who is pursuing an education in a healthcare related field. Students who meet the criteria below are encouraged to apply. Applications are reviewed by a committee made of up health care professionals and community members and a recipient will be selected to be awarded each spring.
Applications must be submitted to the Foundation by May 1, 2024.
Applicants
Applications for the Dr. Edgardo Lob Memorial Cancer Care Fund Scholarship will be considered from students who satisfy the following criteria:
- Applicants must be graduating during the current school year from a Mercer County, Pennsylvania high school.
- Applicants must have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
- Applicants must be planning to begin pursuing a postsecondary education beginning in the upcoming Fall semester.
- Applicants must be seeking a degree in a health field.
- The application window for this year’s scholarship cycle is open until May 1, 2024 and applications must be submitted to the Foundation by that date to be considered.
- Applications will be selected by a scholarship committee and the recipient will be notified of their selection.

Applicants must submit a completed application along with a letter of reference, a copy of the student’s high school transcript, a letter of acceptance from an accredited university, college, or school, and an essay (maximum length of two pages) per the application instructions. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to share about how a cancer diagnosis has impacted them or someone close to them and how this has affected their decision to pursue a healthcare-related education.
