Medical Equipment Recycling Program

MERP provides refurbished medical equipment to people in our service area who lack the insurance coverage or means to buy new medical equipment.

How the Program Works

The Medical Equipment Recycling Program (MERP) is an initiative of UPMC Horizon Foundation. It accepts donated medical equipment from area residents who no longer need it or from organizations who have collected the items. MERP staff help clean and refurbish the devices. After a final inspection, the equipment is loaned to people who need it.  In addition, the program educates individuals and their family members about other community-based resources that can address specific needs. During the past decade, MERP has donated equipment to over 10,000 people.

How to Become Part of the Program

The program could not operate without the support of volunteers.  In addition to cleaning and repairing equipment, volunteers provide office support and assist with helping individuals who are inquiring about obtaining equipment.

Volunteer Your Time and Talent

The program needs help transporting, cleaning, and refurbishing the equipment, and the program needs volunteers to provide office support. Contact us at 724-347-MERP to learn how you can help.

Donate Your Equipment

If you own medical equipment that is no longer used, donate it to the Medical Equipment Recycling Program or make a cash donation to help purchase necessary equipment and supplies. Cash donations are vital to continue the valuable community service that the program provides. Contact us at 724-347-MERP to donate equipment or financial support.
